Well said Mike and nicely balanced how you phrased it. I would have found it painful to write "SIR Ashley Bloomfield" and it shows how far we have drifted off from the legendary tales of honour and noble knights...
I really welcome having such articles as yours to possibly show (or quote from) some friends whom I managed not to have a clash despite them understanding the situation completely differently.
I am Hungarian, yes. Or maybe I used to be and now I'm not fully a Hungarian but not fully a New Zealander either. Some interesting combination of the two. I think that's part of the journey of first-generation immigrants.
I remember seeing a man in a bookshop in Canberra, early 70's: had duelling scars. My parents presumed he was an Hungarian emigré. My wife is a Palffy.
So that's how you guessed the origin of my name! Pálffy is also quite characteristically Hungarian even if as a surname not a first name. Is she first generation immigrant?
A sensible and hopeful outcome darkened somewhat by silly and unnecessary medical metaphors from the bench.
On a slightly frivolous note I notice Sue Gray may also have inspired a UK version: Dr Anna Loutfi of The Bad Law Project. I only notice really as they nicked the yellow poster protests too. Ugh.
You are absolutely correct, of course, a change in government is not going to wash away the perfidy especially not if one takes this appraisal seriously.

You're Hungarian?
No - why do you think that?
The name István is Hungarian.
Yes, I think he is. Not me though.

Yes, between worlds.

Yes, she is half English. Her father died recently: Count István Pálffy ab Erdőd.
How are you finding New Zealand?
First rate stuff. Thank you, again.
